The Firearms Safety and Familiarization course is a 2 hour lecture course outlining the operation, maintenance and safe handling of the modern handgun and rifle as well as relevant statutes contained within FS 790 involving the possession of firearm; who is a prohibited person as well as where it is unlawful to posses a firearm. During this course students will NOT be handling any firearms and all instruction will be via lecture utilizing both oral and A/V media. Students who complete this course will receive a certificate of completion. Due to the absence of live fire, this certificate will not be suitable as proof of proficiency for applying for a Florida Concealed Weapons and Firearms License. Students who are not a prohibited person and sign a waiver stating such may pay an additional fee to participate in a course of fire involving a handgun and live ammunition and will receive an upgraded certificate which can be used to apply for a Florida Concealed Weapons and Firearms License.
